About the doctor
Radiation oncology (radiotherapy) is a branch of cancer treatment that uses high-energy radiation to target cancer cells and stop their growth. It may be used on its own or alongside surgery and chemotherapy.
By assessing the type and stage of the disease, the radiation oncologist designs a precise, individualised treatment plan to achieve the greatest effect on the tumour with the least harm to healthy tissue. Consultation, support and follow-up of the patient throughout the course of treatment are an important part of this service.
